WELCOME DR. LESSLIE PONRAJA

Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (KLHCI) is pleased to share Kinmount District Health Services Foundation's (KDHSF) announcement that Dr. Lesslie Ponraja joined the healthcare team at the Kinmount and District Health Centre (KDHC), as of March 1, 2023.  Dr. Ponraja comes from England, where he has practised medicine for twenty years, fifteen as a family doctor and five in a hospital. KDHSF appreciates the assistance of the Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (KLHCI) during the recruitment process. Cindy Snider, KLHCI Recruitment & Retention Coordinator, states “I wish to congratulate the KDHSF for all their hard work on the recruitment of Dr. Ponraja. It has been a pleasure to assist them through the process.”

Actively seeking family physicians interested in a community family medicine practice which could include in-patient care and/or weekend hospitalist at the Ross Memorial Hospital located in Lindsay, ON:

  • Opportunity to join the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team by replacing retiring physicians in Lindsay, Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon.

  • Opportunity to join the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team as a GP/OB.

  • Opportunity to join the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team by beginning a new practice in a variety of locations in the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Area is eligible for Income Stabilization.

  • The City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization consists of 25 physicians located throughout the area and is supported by a strong Family Health Team (https://cklfamilyhealthteam.com/).

  • Opportunity for privileges at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay (https://rmh.org/).  

  • Variety of clinic space available.

MEDICAL LEARNERS AT THE ROSS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND IN THE CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES 
 

A reminder that KLHCI coordinates medical learning for the Ross Memorial Hospital and the community family physicians throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.  If interested in a placement please send your CV, dates available for placement and preferred specialty to Cindy Snider, Recruitment & Retention Coordinator at csnider@rmh.org.  (We have lots of fun too!)

KLHCI EVENTS


KLHCI has been very busy this winter and spring!

CASTED:  Primary Care:  KLHCI was pleased to provide this Continuing Professional Development course for the City of Kawartha Lakes family doctors.  Special thanks to the City of Kawartha Lakes for assisting with subsidizing this program.

UWO Residents Retreat:  KLHCI was happy to attend the job fair portion of this event on January 28.

ROMP Marketplace:  KLHCI also attended this event at Collingwood on February 24.

KLHCI Virtual Residents Information Presentation:  KLHCI hosted this event on March 18.  Presentations included were:  Living and Practicing in CKL; Kawartha Lakes Wine & Craft Beers; and a Q&A session with family physicians.  Thank you to Louis Karkabasis, Sommelier and Drs. Petrosoniak, Wilson, Zung and Young for participating in the event.

Caribbean Canadian Club Presentation:  Together with the Canadian Club at Trinity Medical School in the Caribbean, KLHCI coordinated a discussion on the following topics: current Ontario licencing, electives, and a former Caribbean school graduate's journey returning to Ontario.  Thank you to medical student Teya van Biljouw of the Canadian Club, Dr. Cody Bowen, and Ontario Health representatives Mariam Malu and Kemi Oyefeso for participating!

UofT Rural Community Experience Day:  After a few years of virtual events, KLHCI was thrilled that this event was able to be held face-to-face again!  Forty-one, first and second year UofT medical students were in Lindsay on Wednesday, April 5 for a day of hands-on learning along with discussions around mental health.  Following a wonderful lunch at Pane Vino, the students held a Q&A session with local Family Doctors and a UofT Resident currently training here.  A great time was held by all!  Many thanks go to Dr. Dawn Reid, Dr. Sheila-Mae Young, Dr. Peter Petrosoniak, Dr. Baldeep Paul, Dr. Steven Kim (UofT Resident) along with Michelle Way, RT and Kim Semple, RN for volunteering their time to teach and interact with the students.
